Convergence08 is hosted by six partners: Foresight Nanotech Institute, Humanity+, ImmInst, Long Now Foundation, Methuselah Foundation, and Singularity Institute, referred hereafter as "Convergence08 Group."
Convergence08 Group is committed to protecting the privacy of visitors to our website. We have established this privacy policy to explain what information we collect through this website and how it is used.
Convergence08 Group does not sell or rent personal information under any circumstances, and we do not share information without prior consent except as compelled by law. (See discussion below.)
Information Gathered by the Convergence08 Site
For visitors to the Convergence08 website, we generally log standard technical information automatically, such as the numerical Internet Protocol (IP) address of the computer you are using; the browser software you use and your operating system; and the Internet address of the website from which you linked directly to our site. We generally do log the date and time users access our site on an anonymous basis. This information is used for web statistics tracking and analysis. Circumstances in which we may log further standard technical information include conducting site testing, diagnosis of technical problems, and defending against attacks on the site.
We do not use persistent cookies. We may use session cookies from time to time. Session cookies expire when you close your browser. You can set your browser to refuse cookies.
In addition, Convergence08 Group collects and retains information you submit to us. It is up to you whether to submit information to us, and how much information to provide.

Convergence08 Group Use of Information
In general, Convergence08 Group uses the information provided by you to register and participate. The Convergence08 website will collect your personal information on registration. You may be contacted concerning your registration through the contact information you have provided.
We look at technical information to diagnose problems with our server and to administer the Convergence08 site.

From time to time, Convergence08 Group may work with third-party consultants or other service providers who may have access to personally identifiable information. In addition, we will independently object to requests for access to information about users of our site that we believe to be improper.
Updating or Removing Your Information
You may choose to correct, update, or delete the personal information you have submitted to us by sending an email to main@convergence08.org. Furthermore, if we inadvertently collect more personal information than intended, we endeavor to delete the extraneous information. However, please understand that deleted information may continue to persist on back-up media.

The Convergence08 Privacy Policy may change from time to time. If we make any substantive changes to our policies, we will post notice of changes on this page.

Convergence08 Group employs industry standard security measures to protect the loss, misuse, and alteration of the information under our control.
Although we make good faith efforts to store information collected by Convergence08 Group in a secure operating environment, we cannot guarantee complete security. Information collected by Convergence08 Group will be maintained for a length of time appropriate to our needs.
